For Lindsay Hameroff, two things are always on the to-do list: reading and writing. Perhaps not too out of the ordinary for an author by trade, but fitting in time—a few extra words here and there—makes all the difference in her days. Beyond work, she finds ways to make every day feel special—even popping into the grocery store can be a movie moment.

A self-proclaimed fan of “any type of love story,” she went into the romance genre herself: her second novel, Never Planned on You, comes out February 18. The second-chance romance follows Ali, who can’t stop thinking about a whirlwind night in London with Graham, whom she never expects to see again. She winds up interning for a wedding planner—and who’s the groom, you ask? Why, Graham of course. (Intrigue!)

To celebrate the release, Lindsay is sharing everything about her favorite day with us—it might surprise you!—in our latest Day in Brief.

Uwila Warrior: What is your favorite day of the week?

Lindsay Hameroff: Monday! Monday is always when I'm at my personal best. I'm more motivated, focused, creative, and enthusiastic on a Monday than I am any other day of the week. On Mondays, you get to start over with a fresh slate and anything seems possible. It is the September of weekdays.

UW: How does the day start for you?

LH: I get all my ducks in order. After school drop-off, I sit down with my planner and get organized. I finalize my meal planning for the week and then put in a grocery order. I'll do some other quick chores around the house and then I'll sit down in my office to write. I generally don't write over the weekend so my brain feels fresh on Mondays and the words come easier. I'll write until the groceries arrive and then break for lunch!

UW: What about the afternoon?

LH: After lunch, I'll write for another hour and then do any other life things that need to be taken care of: scheduling appointments, running errands, doing laundry. I also like to give myself at least thirty minutes of quiet time before picking up the kids. I like to use this time to read, but sometimes this just means scrolling while snuggling with the cats.

UW: What does a perfect evening for you look like?

LH: On a perfect evening, we eat dinner as a family and then do all the little weeknight things: homework, showers, brushing teeth, and reading stories. My kids still love to wear matching pajamas and do their nighttime routine together, and I am savoring every moment. After we get the kids to bed, my husband and I will clean up and pack lunches, then we'll watch a show together on the sofa.

UW: What habits or moments during the day give you strength?

LH: I have a word count I like to hit during the work day and when I exceed it, I feel like superwoman! I also love a clean house. Tidying up a room while I'm taking a break makes me feel so much more relaxed and capable. I generally shower in the morning and then throw on loungewear, but if I have a meeting or lunch plans, I'll also give myself a blowout and put on makeup. Putting myself together makes me feel powerful and like the best version of myself. If all else fails, I pack up and go to Wegmans. Walking around Wegmans makes me feel like Holly Golightly. It is my happy place.

UW: How do you power down at night?

LH: I always read before bed, no matter how late it is or what else is going on. I even read in the hospital after giving birth. I read print books during the daylight hours, but at night, I like to curl up in the dark with my Kindle. I'm always the last one awake in my house and reading in the dark is so peaceful.
