DAY IN BRIEF: Jean Colin, Founder of Beyonderway and Beauty/Fashion Business Advisor
For Jean Colin, founder of Beyonderway, the multipurpose skincare line made with aromatherapy traditions for modern women on-the-go, being busy is a prerequisite A true New Yorker in every sense, Colin calls herself “an overachiever in everything.” In addition to Beyonderway, Colin also works as a beauty and fashion business advisor, so free time is tough to come by.
So by the time Saturday rolls around, she’s ready to enjoy it. And she’ll still find time to kick back. “Don't get me wrong, I could binge watch a movie or a TV show for hours and hours with potato chips, Skinny Pop, and chicken fingers,” she says.
Colin says her main goal is to live life without regrets. And that means constantly learning, and always finding the fun. “I consider myself to be cultured but at the same time to be active,” she says. “That's the reason I try to spend half my time in NYC and half my time in the heartland of Wyoming.” Sounds pretty idyllic, no? Ahead, Colin opens up about how she spends her rare free time and more in our latest Day in Brief.
Uwila Warrior: What is your favorite day of the week?
Jean Colin: Saturday! Saturday morning finally makes me feel relaxed. Having two businesses, especially with starting up Beyonderway, means my weekdays can be very challenging to be focused and motivated at all times.
UW: How is that day different from the others?
Jean: I can finally wind down to decompress myself. We are not machines and need time to recoup. This is something I have been learning how to do and understanding the meaning of. I guess I am getting more mature and wiser.
UW: Describe a typical morning on this day?
Jean: I like to wake up at 8 am, starting my day with a cup of coffee and reading the WSJ. As a couple, we like to go to a 9:30 am class at SoulCycle. I clean up after class with my Beyonderway Face + Body Wipes and use the Face & Body Mist to feel ready to take on the day.
UW: What about the afternoon?
Jean: We make brunch at home, if possible, since we eat out during the week a lot. During the winter, we tend to go to lots of matinee shows on Broadway, classical performances, movies, museum exhibitions. I try to keep up with current cultural events to see new things to give me creativity. Now that the weather is getting warmer, I have started golf season and am hoping to hit the beach in a few weeks. Since I am out and about in the afternoon, Beyonderway wipes become very handy.
UW: What does a perfect evening for you on this day look like?
Jean: If I do not have any social engagements, I am happy to be at home cooking dinner.
UW: How do you power down at night?
Jean: I turn off the phone so as not to be disturbed, and read in bed. Currently I am reading a beautiful book, The History of Costumes, published by Taschen. I’m loving it. In the evening, I love to do my evening routine with Beyonderway Face & Body Oil and Hand, Face, & Body Butter. When I wake up in the morning, my skin feels great and the essential oils really make me sleep well.
UW: What habits or moments during the day give you strength?
Jean: My playlist. Now that I work out of my home, I get very happy if I get a chance to have a short walk in Central Park with coffee. Looking at my laptop screen all the time and not drinking enough water, I feel dehydrated so I like to use Beyonderway mist to refresh and hydrate — the Aloe Vera leaf infused water makes my skin dewy.
